IT’S GOTTA GOOD BEAT
I continue to be a proud supporter of music made in Chicago, but some of the best records made from 1958 through 1964 came out of New York studios with one group leading the way….The Drifters.  Atlantic Records trailblazed the way with “There Goes My Baby” in 1959.  But it was the original Drifters group with BILL PINKNEY, who along with Ray Charles and Ruth Brown made Atlantic a major force in black music.  Bill Pinkney the last of the original Drifters recently passed away without the fanfare he deserved.  I did see Bill perform with his group last year at the Star Plaza, and the audience loved him!  You’ve heard Bill Pinkney  with Clyde McPhatter on the Drifters "“White Christmas".  While we’re at it, are you familiar with NELLIE LUTCHER?  She was a piano playin’ blues singin’ sister who played for Ma Rainey and had her hits on the 78’s in the 40s and 50s, like “Fine Brown Frame”.  Born in Louisiana in 1912, Nellie’s works are considered to be part of the foundation of rock and roll as we know it. So Rock N Roll Heaven adds two distinguished members.

are unconnected but loosely related things
like à We say  “It’s not that serious” and George Carlin says “People who see life as anything more than pure entertainment are missing the point.” And we agree. NEXT à Somebody tell Alderman WILLIE B. COCHRAN of the 20th ward that we must have a street designation for the ELDORADOS singing group around ENGLEWOOD High School, NOW.  They deserve it. NEXT  Save gas? Slow down to 55mph, and why don’t they bring it back again?   Love is a somewhat controlled state of emotional OXYMORONITIS Agree?
